There are a number of simple techniques that could prevent accidents occurring in the workplace, which are also cheap to implement, company umbrella contractors may be interested to hear.

Roger Bibbings, the occupational safety adviser at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, pointed out that good lighting, placing matting near entrances and mopping up any spills are just a few things which could prevent a slip or fall.

"[These are] all such measures are cheap and easy compared to the pain and cost of falls leading to fractures and other injuries," he explained.

Mr Bibbings went on to claim that 40 per cent of major injuries at work are caused by a slip, trip or fall, as well as for 20 per cent of over-three-day injuries.

Recently, the expert noted that, while there is nothing at fault essentially with health and safety procedures in the workplace, the way there are used are not to a high enough standard to reduce the risk of accidents.
