Contractors told 'beware creative and colourful CVs'
Posted by John Crawley
Company umbrella contractors applying for new work opportunities have been told of one aspect to avoid when writing out a CV.
A study conducted by the BI Norwegian School of Management indicated that candidates who finish off their resume with some creative touches are gearing themselves up for rejection.
The results were found after the researchers used an authentic job posting to see which CV format worked best – formal, colourful and creative ones were the choices.
Reflecting on the findings, study author Jan Ketil Arnulf, who is an assistant professor at BI, commented: "All deviations from a formal format reduced the chances of an interview."
In fact, there is around double the chance of a contractor being requested for an interview with a formal CV than after submitting a creative one.
The research comes soon after Tony Roy, president of CareerBuilder EMEA, advised contractors with umbrella companies to make a resume relevant to the work opportunity that they are applying for.
