Contractors should be encouraged to work flexibly
Flexible working should be available to more contractors around the UK, according to an expert, who said that it would help businesses to meet customer's needs and have happier staff.
Stephen Overell, associate director for The Work Foundation, said that a flexible approach to working needs to be adopted by employers as this will in turn improve conditions for their business and contractors alike.
"There is a very strong demand for it from workers. Employers have changed quite quickly over the last few years and flexible working is really not that old," he said.
Mr Overell added that there is still an "awfully long way to go" before flexible working is adopted in all the areas it needs to be and he is not surprised that more contractors want to have more options regarding their working lives.
Recruitment firm Hays recently stated that over half of employers welcome plans by the government to introduce legislation requiring them to offer flexible working to all employees.
