Contractors have edge in competitive job market

Category: Contractor Industry News

The current caution being used by some companies when it comes to recruitment, which means a lot are not prepared to commit to permanent staff placements, is benefiting contractors, according to an expert.

PricewaterhouseCoopers' technology assurance partner, Chris Potter said that IT contractors in retail banking are in a great position because companies are unwilling to commit to large-scale expenditure plans, such as making permanent appointments.

"They're also investing in customer relationship management programmes, but retail banks cautious outlook means few are committing to permanent hires. Again, contractors are benefiting," he said.

Mr Potter added that advances in technology mean that IT contractors have more options when it comes to the kind of jobs they are being asked to do.

Brookson.co.uk recently spoke to Gary Cousins, a solicitor at Cousins Business Law, about the importance of contractors keeping records of balance sheets, which is something that can be dealt with by umbrella companies.ADNFCR-2808-ID-19880794-ADNFCR
