Contractors could feel the blow 'if training grants are cut back'

The level of skill in a workforce may drop if there is a cut back on training grants by the government, which could affect how comfortable a contractor with an umbrella company can be when in a workplace.

Furthermore, contractors could find it even more difficult if clients fail to train staff, according to a male spokesperson at the Trades Union Congress (TUC).

His comments came after the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) urged the economic growth to be protected when the government views its latest Spending Review, believing that the main areas where this is apparent should have its investment protected.

The CBI also noted that more investment is needed to help human capital, with such areas as education and skills been highlighted as vital sectors, which could then aid contractors when going into a new job.

While agreeing with the CBI's request for the government to invest in research and infrastructure, the spokesperson for the TUC said: "The idea that this should be paid for [by] increasing poverty, particularly amongst old people … will not wash with ordinary taxpayers."
