Company umbrella contractors 'still lack confidence in pensions'
Posted by Sarah Putt
Employer-backed pension schemes instil the most confidence in contractors with an umbrella company, according to one business expert.
However, Robin Ellison, a partner at Pinsent Masons, believes that employers and employees have found it hard to seek the schemes they require, due to counter-productive legislation.
To counter this and give those with umbrella companies more opportunities to gain confidence in the pension scheme, he has an idea.
Mr Ellison explained: "The establishment of a holistic, long-term framework for pensions would encourage long-term planning – but it does not look as though that is on the cards."
The advice came after the National Association of Pension Funds (NAPF) found that there had been a nine per cent increase in those who believed pensions were the best way to fund a retirement.
However, the 44 per cent figure shows that confidence with contractors with umbrella companies in this method is still below half the total surveyed.
