Umbrella company users with strong commercial skills are likely to be in high demand, an expert has claimed.

Dr John McGurk, advisor on learning and talent development at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, claimed that these are essential in all industries but are often missing.

He said that companies with these abilities are able to identify what they need to do to make money and where the bottlenecks are.

"You need to know how your business makes money or how it serves its customers – you need people who understand that," he explained.

Dr McGurk added that there are many organisations these skills are useful for, as well as innovation and creativity, especially when firms are looking to expand into new markets.

Recent research by Egon Zehnder International found that only five per cent of UK executives are confident that they have the resources necessary to succeed in future challenges.
