Cloud computing 'could help more than company umbrella contractors'

Contractors with umbrella companies have been told that cloud computing may not just be able to help them in their work, but also boost the economy too.

Clodagh Murphy, director of Eclipse, explained that one problem at the moment is that there is a lot of fear and uncertainty surrounding cloud computing as companies do not understand what it entails, and do not have time to study it in depth.

However, Ms Murphy acknowledged that any workplace which has an exchange server will have to get it upgraded, with some needed to be replaced if they are over four years old.

A cost-effective measure which could be used is for company umbrella contractors to encourage employers to embrace the likes of hosted email or hosted exchange.

The expert noted: "As the technology gets more proven as effective, then those businesses will find they have more time to spend on the things they are good at, like selling their own products and growing their own businesses."

Recently, Ovum predicted that security, sustainability and cloud services will be the most important trends for 2011 in enterprise IT.
