CBI calls for changes to aid labour market
Category: Employment Law, Taxation and Legislation for Contractors
The CBI has unveiled a package of measures it said would ensure the labour market can sustain businesses and jobs during the recovery, including flexible working, blocking regulations and changing regulations. Its report, entitled Making Britain the Place to Work, highlighted the importance of flexibility and pointed out that this approach aided many firms through the global downturn.
The CBI has called for greater use of flexibility and urged the government to introduce a sustainable employment test to ensure any new laws help, rather than hinder, job creation.
It also wants changes to how strike action is voted on and redundancies made.
"As we enter a period of fragile recovery, we need to do everything we can to create a jobs market that works for Britain, and to ensure Britain is the place to work," commented John Cridland, CBI deputy director-general.
Simplified rules regarding agency workers are also needed, the CBI report added, as well as a review of existing EU directives.
