Benefits of outplacement services highlighted
Category: Contractor Industry News
Outplacement is a valuable service to professional contractors and other workers, one HR expert has said.People who leave a company having received such a service tend to think more highly of the firm and will recommend it as a good place to work, explained Sian Harrington, editor of HR magazine.
"It helps the relationship between employer and employee," she said of outplacement services, which can include CV or interview advice and career guidance.
"Some companies see offering outplacement almost like a benefit, similar to offering pensions or health insurance."
Offering outplacement demonstrates how the company supports its staff, Ms Harrington added, and helps workers focus on the positives in difficult times.
Research by Hays has demonstrated the importance placed on these career progression services, with two-thirds of employers saying the government should provide funding for this support.
Nearly half (47 per cent) want outplacement offerings to be compulsory for staff being made redundant.
