Umbrella company contractors have been told that many over-50s in the UK are experiencing the age of happiness, according to a new study.

Engage Mutual conducted the research, in which it found that 44 per cent of people in this age bracket are content with their lives.

Reasons for this include the feeling that they are in a good financial position, in positive health and having a longer period to enjoy their lives than before.

In fact, 52 per cent are enjoying the increased amount of time on their hands, according to the survey of 1,479 adults aged 50 or over, while over 40 per cent are happy with their size and shape of their bodies.

A spokesman for Engage Mutual commented: "It is heartening that so many are finding that being in your fifties can be the most rewarding time of your life. With increased life expectancy, being 50 is considered to be relatively young these days."

Meanwhile, umbrella companies owners that are feeling stressed have been encouraged to take up a health regime to combat the issue, Tam Fry, National Obesity Forum board member and chair for the Child Growth Foundation, recently suggested.
