2010 predicted to be better for IT contractors

Category: Contractor Industry News

IT contractors have been hit hard in the recession, but 2010 may see recruitment levels increase, new research has shown.

A poll of 41 IT directors by ReThink Recruitment showed that IT contractors now make up ten per cent of the headcount, compared to 16 per cent at the start of the year.

However, the recruitment firm said that levels increased at the end of 2009 and this trend could well continue this year.

The research also found that almost three-quarters of IT contractors had their pay frozen last year, while a quarter had their rates reduced, with only two per cent of IT directors increasing rates.

Only five per cent of IT directors plan to lay off IT contractors in the next year, while 12 per cent plan to increase staffing levels.

The research follows comments from Alex Farrell, managing director at theitjobboard.co.uk, who said that IT contractors could see more opportunities this year as the UK emerges from recession.
