Further training and professional qualifications help aid contractor blues

Date: May 13, 2009

Whilst employement figures look poor, there are ways to improve your chances of employment through further training.

During what is a difficult time within recruitment and contracting industries and for anyone looking for a new contract it is apparent that freelancers and contractors looking to improve their employment potential and increase the chances of retention within existing contracts will find that re-training and improving their professional skill set will improve their chances of employment success across most industries.

More government directives within retraining and furthering skills is currently proving to be  a boon with employers as they capitalise on grants and concessions made available by the government to help improve the UK workforce skillset. Companies are keen to get their hands on staff who have gained formal qualifications particularly where costs can be directly offset by companies against these government incentives.

Currently it is an employers market with companies looking to take on new contract staff having much greater access to extremely well qualified staff as unemployment has risen, and it is essential that freelancers stay on top of furthering their professional training within their field to ensure the best chances of success in gaining new contracts.

The arguement presented by some employers of hiring under qualified freelancers and contractors during a recession to help lower recruitment costs is a short lived one as the burden of skills deficit quickly takes its' toll on in-house training and resource dilution.

Funds are also being made available to potential employees looking to retrain and further their skill sets with career development loans and childcare cost grants, so there has never been a better time to assess any changes within your given industry and aim to fill any gaps in your knowledge and invest in a more employable future with professional training.

Try the government training website as a starting point for gaining access to grants and schemes currently available.
