Contractors Faking Industry Membership Served Zero Tolerance
Date: February 20, 2009
With the construction industry suffering under the lack of new builds as reported in our article New House Build figures 2009 the The National Access and Scaffolding Confederation (NASC) has announced a full attack on companies flying their flag by pretending to be members.
The NASC regulations for contractors clearly state key safety requirements for staff and contractors including:
- The processes of justifying the design will alter rather than the scaffold
- Façade/sway bracing is fitted every six bays
- There are more tie arrangements and alternatives for greater flexibility
- The arrangements for some sheeted scaffolds are more varied than BS 5973
With companies alleging to be members of NASC who are not registered, there lies a road of litigation ahead as the NASC states “This is not a threat – it’s a promise” on their website.
Any companies looking to employ a Scaffolding contractor can be sure of finding a NASC member through their website using the member search facility.
OrangeGenie are taking steps to ensure all contractors working within our umbrella company regulations will be taking health and safety regulations seriously and are planning to roll out training for all of our contractors.
