In the past an individual contractor working in the UK could set up a limited company and go ahead taking on contracts for end clients billing them through their limited company, enjoy the tax benefits of paying a basic minimum wage, and claiming tax efficient dividends as their main earnings. For all intent and purposes they were not running a limited company in the traditional sense, purely using this as a method of paying less tax and possibly offsetting more expenses, thus reducing the tax liability even further.
