Better Employment Prospects Posted in May 2009 according to REC and KPMG

Date: June 03, 2009

The Recruitment and Employment Confederation (REC) have issued a report in collaberation with KPMG demonstrating that jobs in May deteriorated at a slower rate in May as easing was demonstrated  by the permanent and temporary contracting employment sectors.

Appointments of temporary contract staff as well as permanent staff slowed in May yet again, however at a reduced rate of decline than the worst months prior to this.

There were further reductions in pay for both contractors and permanent employees, however more candidates were available and contractions in PAYE and freelance billing continued to ease according to the report.

This substantiates ‘green shoots’ optimism which was re-iterated by Chief Executive of REC Kevin Green who claimed that of the companies interviewed 60% reported wither increased or stable retention of contract staff.

Once again this goes to show the importance of contractors in the UK, how much revenue is generated by freelance billing and the need for temporary staff availability during a recession, which provides a flexible work force as reported here at OrangeGenie with key benefits of temporary staffing.

Despite this report showing signs of a slowdown in the rate of economic deterioration several political factors are not helping the country to embrace recovery. With UK ministers resigning over tax evasion accusations and international collapses of major companies such as General Motors it is imperative that at all levels the UK concentrates on the task at hand which is to make this country as robust as possible, through staffing and a positive attitude towards the workplace in order for us to get out of recession as quickly as possible.
